Use this limited space wisely. Be sure to use keywords that accurately describe your Store and the items you sell. Use words in your description that you think people might enter when they search for a product.
SET UP TIP
Use a Store theme that includes your Store description in the header (for example, the "Classic Left" theme), because this increases your chances of appearing in search results. Refer to Store Theme.
Keep in mind that people often use search engines such as Google or Yahoo to find products they are looking for. If your eBay Store appears prominently in the search results, your Store will be more accessible to potential buyers.
TIPS TO HELP INCREASE STORE PLACEMENT
Be sure to use keywords that accurately describe your Store and the items you sell.
- put more important and specific keywords first, then the less important and general keywords later on
- make sure your description accurately represents your Store. Filling your description with product or brand names that you don't usually have in stock, known as keyword spamming, will frustrate buyers and actually cause your Store's placement in search results to decline
- did you know that a common mistake made by Sellers is they do not include a space after the comma? If there are no spaces to separate each word, search engines will view this as one long continuous word.
WRONG: We sell jeans for men, women, children, boys, girls, petite, more
CORRECT: We sell jeans for men, women, children, boys, girls, petite and more
- use words in your description that you think people might enter when they search for a product
For example, if you specialize in wrist watches, state that you sell "wrist watches" rather than "timepieces". A more straightforward description will improve your Store's chances of being found by interested buyers.
EFFECTIVE STORE DESCRIPTIONS
Be sure to make a clear first impression by writing a great description for your Store.
- use descriptive keywords that clearly communicate what you are selling, include Store items manufacturer, brand name, artist, or designer.
- try not to include "GREAT DEALS" or "LOOK HERE", buyers don't search for words like these
- although it's really nice and friendly to say "Welcome to my Store, thank you for dropping by, please feel free to browse around", buyers don't search for words like these either
- don't use all capital letters - it's difficult to read and most folks consider it yelling
- try not to use references to fast shipping or combined shipping here, these are important to attract buyers, but why not make use of your custom store pages or promotional boxes for this, rather than filling your Store Description with them?
- if you are not sure what to write, always ask yourself if there is a better use for this space
